How to choose a 999 silver coin

A 999 silver coin is 99.9% pure silver by weight. Pitaari coins are struck to an exact weight, 1, 5, 10, 20, 50 or 100 grams, so a 10 gram coin weighs 10 grams, with no tolerance either side. The price of each coin is worked out from the shop's latest silver rate and shown as one total including GST. Lakshmi, Ganesh and Lakshmi Ganesh designs are the usual choice for Dhanteras, Diwali and puja. Coins of 5 g and 10 g suit gifts for relatives and colleagues, while 20 g, 50 g and 100 g coins suit a family puja or a wedding. Where a coin is BIS hallmarked, its page says so, and an assay report is available for any piece on request. Pitaari is the silver line of Agarwal Jewellers, trading in Meerut since 1960, and buys back its own coins at metal value.

Questions

Which weight of silver coin is best for a gift?
A 5 gram or 10 gram coin is the usual gift for relatives and colleagues. 20, 50 and 100 gram coins are more often bought for a family puja or a wedding.
Are your silver coins hallmarked?
BIS hallmarking is compulsory for gold jewellery but a voluntary scheme for silver. Where a coin of ours is hallmarked, its page says so, and where it is not, we do not imply otherwise. An assay report is available on request.
Is everything here 999 pure silver?
Yes. Every silver piece on this site is 999 fine silver, which is 99.9% silver by weight. The gold coins are 24K. Nothing on the site is alloyed.
What is included in the price?
The metal, the labour of turning it into a finished piece — die work, striking or casting, finishing, polishing, packing and wastage — and GST. Delivery is charged separately and quoted with the order. It is free above ₹ 10,000.
Will the piece weigh exactly what is listed?
Coins are struck to an exact weight. Hand-finished pieces carry a stated weight tolerance, shown on the product page, because casting and finishing cannot land on a figure to the milligram. You are charged on the listed weight.
What happens when it tarnishes?
Tarnish is a thin surface film formed when silver meets sulphur in the air. It wipes off, and every piece carries twelve months of free re-polishing at our counter.
