How a metal rate becomes a finished price

A finished piece costs the metal in it, plus the labour to make it, plus GST. Here is how a per-gram rate turns into the price of an object.

The rate you see quoted is the price of the metal, per gram. It is not the price of a finished object, because an object has to be made.

Three things separate the two. The metal itself: the rate multiplied by the weight of the piece multiplied by its purity. The making: die work, striking or casting, finishing, polishing, packing and wastage. And GST at the applicable rate.

Why the price on the page moves

Every price on this site is computed from the metal rate we last recorded, with the time of that reading printed next to it. It is indicative. The figure is confirmed when you message us, and the rate that applies is the one at confirmation.
